Artist Statement:

Nancy Friese’s paintings and prints have been exhibited in more than 25 one-person shows and 120 group shows, nationally and internationally. Her works have been included in shows at the Barbican Center in London, Brandts Klaedefabrik in Odense, Denmark, Bronx River Art Center, College of Wooster Art Museum, Chrysler Museum, Everson Museum, Herbert Johnson Museum of Art, International Center of Print New York, The New York Public Library, North Dakota Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, and Tokyo’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

She has received three National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, a Giverny Grant, a Blanche E. Colman Award and a George Sugarman Foundation Award for painting. She participated in Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Studioscape Residency Program in the World Trade Center Tower One 91st floor until 9/11/01 and its New Views: DUMBO residency. She has been an artist-in-residence at MacDowell Colony, Millay Colony, I-Park, and with the City of Pont-Aven, France and RI Land Trust. Her works are in the collections of forty-five corporate and museum collections.

Friese has an M.F.A. from Yale University School of Art and studied at the University of California, Berkeley and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. She has a B.S. from the University of North Dakota. Her work is represented by Pepper Gallery, Boston, Mimosa Press, Tulsa,, and Riverhouse Editions. A member of ArtTable, she resides in Rhode Island and teaches at Rhode Island School of Design.
